Tracey also discusses the user friendliness of being in an ethical Professional organisation that has your back and understands the trials of being a Hypnotherapist in full time practice in the UK.

S1. E5: Andrew Austin

For the fifth instalment, Nick has the pleasure of welcoming Andrew Austin on to discuss amongst other things; why people choose to become therapists, the scale of the intellectual laziness within the helping professions, status obsessions, how (too) many view therapy and mental health as quasi-religions, and much, much more…

Hypnosis Discussion Network - Andrew Austin

by Nick Ebdon & Andrew Austin | Episode 5: Andrew Austin

Andrew brings a refreshing honesty to the podcast as he explores with Nick his pet peeves, the state of the helping professions and the broader issues and problems society is facing in the every growing monetisation of the mental health industry.
This interview may hit a nerve, and that’s what makes it fascinating and a must-listen to exchange of ideas.

About Andrew

With a private practice in West Sussex, England, Andrew has a specialist interest in “schizophrenias” and anxiety and has been heavily influenced by the writings of notables such as R.D. Laing and Thomas Szasz. He has developed two bodies of work, “Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT)” and “Metaphors of Movement (MoM).” IEMT is a rapidly growing therapeutic modality that has some analogies to EMDR, whilst Metaphors of Movement is a model for exploring the hidden mind which has many therapeutic applications. Both have become recognised modalities and are listed in the Sage Encyclopedia of Theory of Counseling and Psychotherapy.

Andrew T. Austin is more than willing to speak out about the narcissism that is rife within the therapeutic professions and, as such, draws a lot of negative commentaries, especially from the “NLP community” described by Austin as “rotten to its very core.”

S1. E3: Howard Cooper

Episode three is packed full of valuable content, brought to you courtesy of full time rapid change worker Howard Cooper, Howard chats with Nick about how clients often get in their own way, meta suggestions and the Willingness Ladder, an approach to change work that has gained plaudits from the hypnosis community.…….

Hypnosis Discussion Network - Howard Cooper

by Nick Ebdon & Howard Cooper | Episode 3: Howard Cooper

Howard chats with Nick about how clients often get in their own way, Meta suggestions and the Willingness ladder, an approach to change work that has gained plaudits for the hypnosis community.

Howard discusses:

What are the suggestions that are really being made during sessions. For example, If the therapist orientates towards helping someone GET RID OF someone’s thoughts… does that not imply that those thoughts are dangerous?

How often are therapists inadvertently getting in their own way. Another example, looking for the “ROOT CAUSE” or “Initial Significant Event” implies there is one… and may lead people to become more trapped.

Howard sees his job is helping people to stop being afraid of their own neurology and stop trying to control things they can’t control.

About Howard

Howard Cooper is known for helping people create RAPID shifts in their thinking and over the last 20 years he has worked with 1000s of individuals. He rejects the notion that deep & lasting change has to take a long time and, over the years he’s seen some incredible transformations. He has worked on ‘Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Without Fear’ course, writes magazine columns, talks about change on LBC and even hosts his own podcast (Rapid Change Matters) to name a few. All this has gone into the “melting pot” that is Howard’s experience which he is now keen to share with others in the business.
